Landing Page Optimization

Landing page optimization is the process of testing and refining a page's copy, layout, and calls to action to increase the percentage of visitors who complete a target action, such as signing up or requesting a demo.

What is Landing Page Optimization? How to Improve Conversion

Formula: Conversion Rate = (Visitors Who Convert / Total Visitors) x 100 Example: A landing page gets 2,000 visitors in a month and 60 sign up. Conversion rate = (60 / 2,000) x 100 = 3%. What to test, in rough order of impact: the headline and value proposition, does the page say clearly what the product does and for whom, in the first five seconds, the primary call to action, one clear next step, not three competing buttons, social proof (logos, testimonials, real numbers), and page load speed, every extra second of load time measurably drops conversion. Benchmarks vary a lot by industry, but a typical landing page converts in the 2-5% range, and pages in the top 10% of performance convert above 10%, largely by having a single, specific offer rather than a generic pitch. Landing page optimization should follow A/B testing discipline, changing one variable at a time and running the test long enough to reach statistical significance, rather than eyeballing a week of traffic and declaring a winner. It's also worth remembering the page can only convert the traffic it gets: a beautifully optimized page for the wrong audience will always underperform a mediocre page in front of the right one.

Examples

A tool's landing page converts at 2.1%. The team tests a specific headline naming the ICP by role instead of a generic tagline, and conversion rises to 4.4%, more than doubling signups from the same traffic without spending more on acquisition.

A/B Testing

A/B testing (split testing) means showing two versions of something to different users and measuring which performs better. Version A vs. Version B. Data wins, opinions lose.

CAC (Customer Acquisition Cost)

CAC is how much it costs to acquire one paying customer. Calculate it by dividing total sales and marketing spend by the number of new customers acquired in that period.

Content Marketing

Content marketing is creating and publishing useful content, articles, guides, comparison pages, tools, to attract an audience organically, rather than paying for each visitor through ads.

Conversion Rate

Conversion rate is the percentage of visitors who complete a desired action. Could be signing up, starting a trial, making a purchase—whatever matters for your business.

Account-Based Selling

Account-based selling is a sales strategy that targets a curated list of specific named companies individually, tailoring outreach and pitch to each one, instead of casting a wide net across anyone who might vaguely fit.

Activation Rate

Activation rate is the percentage of signups who complete a key action that signals they got value. High activation predicts retention.
