Shift is a free, open source font editor built from scratch using TypeScript, React, and Rust. Designed for type designers and developers, it combines fast Canvas 2D rendering with native desktop performance via Electron, offering a cross-platform experience with the flexibility of web technologies. Shift integrates with the growing Rust font tooling ecosystem, positioning itself as a development target for new Rust-based font tools and technologies. Currently in alpha and under active development, the editor aims to make font creation more accessible, modern, and extensible for both professional type designers and open source contributors.
